![]() However, Buganda Kingdom Premier Charles Peter Mayiga recently warned people who are inciting others concerning the Kabaka’s life. He pleaded to president Museveni again to intervene in the situation and save his friend from shrewd Buganda Kingdom officials. “Even after President Museveni’s advice, those officials continue deceiving Baganda that their King had travelled abroad to see his doctors briefly and do official duties like meeting potential investors to convince them on investing their money in Buganda which was a lie because the man was very sick,” he said. When Museveni established the truth, he immediately ordered for his treatment abroad. He added that in 2021, President Museveni saved Kabaka Mutebi from Buganda Kingdom officials who were holding him captive when he invited him at state house Nakasero to ascertain what his intelligence was briefing him on Kabaka’s health condition. He further accused Buganda Kingdom officials of harassing Kabaka Mutebi by forcing him to appear in public so that they can use him to collect billions of money from his subjects who participate in his birthday run, pay rent to his Buganda Land Board which he (Mayanja) claims is operating illegally. He said in the laws of Uganda, other leaders at Mengo including the Premier are not recognised and in whatever they are doing, the Kabaka is answerable that is why they wanted to show the public that the king is still in control of everything in the Kingdom even though his health is worrying. On Kabaka sickness, Mayanja alleges that Buganda Kingdom officials are panicking because any concerned citizen can petition the Constitutional Court seeking an interpretation of what the Traditional and Cultural leaders’ laws says when it comes to a head of a cultural institution not being in good health condition to perform his duty as a corporation sole like Kabaka Mutebi. However, Mayanja rubbished the narrative explaining that Buganda never received any independence because it was like other regions in the country which were under Uganda government administration. He insisted that Kabaka Mutebi was forced to appear before the public to address his subjects during Celebrations of “Bulungi Bwansi” day.īuganda also claims the kingdom got its Independence from the British on that day. Those people deserve imprisonment after charging them with torture and harassing the head of Buganda.” “I feel very bad seeing Kabaka in such a situation and I wonder why people decided to bring him in public in that state. But we all agree he is a national leader who deserves to be cared for especially when it comes to his health. Mayanja, a senior lawyer with Kampala Associated Advocates (KAA) stated, “Whatever title you wanted to call him, for me, I’m calling him Ssabattaka even though others call him King. Speaking exclusively to theGrapevine, Mayanja revealed that early this month, he was shocked upon seeing his king in public looking very sick. Sam Mayanja insists that top Buganda Kingdom officials responsible for Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi’s wellbeing should be slapped with criminal charges over the king’s sickness. ![]()
